The Giant German Spitz
The Giant German Spitz originated in Germany in the 1800's. The ancestors of these dogs were probably brought to Holland and Germany by the Vikings. They were bred solely for use as a companion dog.
They are very lively and playful dogs. They should be about 16 inches tall and weigh around 40 pounds. The face of this breed is a little foxlike. The outercoat is long and harsh, while the undercoat is dense and soft. The Giant German Spitz is the second largest of the German Group of spitz dogs, and is bred in solid colors only. Certain colors became associated with particular regions, such as the black with Wuttemberg.
