The Griffon Nivernais
The Griffon Nivernais originated in France in the 1200s. This is an ancient breed that descended from the now extinct Chien Gris de St. Louis.
The Griffon Nivernais is a tall, light-framed dog, not unlike the Spinone and the Otter Hound. It has a bushy, slightly unkempt appearance. The coat hair is long and hard, and usually gray or fawn in color.
They should be between 21-24 inches tall and weigh 50-55 pounds. Another name for the Griffon Nivernais is the Chien de Pays.
