The Lagotto Romagnolo

The Lagotto Romagnolo is an ancient breed that is known for water retrieval in Italy since the 16th century. They are the only breed recognized for searching for truffles on all kinds of ground due to their very developed sense of smell and ability to concentrate on the search.

The Lagotto Romagnolo sheds very little. They have a dense curly coat that does need a bit of care now and then. The coat can be clipped or it can be brushed, however be aware that without regular grooming (brushing or clipping) the coat will become matted quickly.

Though they are a low-non shedding breed, they aren't known as a "clean" breed. They love water and will purposely stomp and roll in mud puddles, and will even tip over water bowls just to play in the water.

Males should be 17-19 inches tall and weigh 28-35 pounds. Females should be 14-16 inches tall and weigh 25-26.5 pounds. Their coat can be off-white, solid white, white with brown patches or rust patches, different shades of brown or rust color. A brown mask is acceptable as well. They have a woolly coat that is dense and curly.
