Schnoodle

The Schnoodle is a mix of Miniature Schnauzer and Poodle. This is not a rare exotic new breed, it is a mixed breed, plain and simple.

Both breeds are prone to numerous health defects including skin allergies, Progressive retinal atropy (eye condition which leads to blindness), panosteitis (growing pains), epiliepsy (seizures), diabetes, cancer, liver shunt, among other things. Sadly, very few Schnoodle breeders are checking for health defects in their dogs prior to breeding them- which means that their puppies are likely to have these health problems as well. There are also temperament issues as well- both breeds can be biters. Most good lines of Schnauzers and Poodles adore everyone, however most of the founation dogs for the Schnoodle are not from these good lines- most are from backyard breeders or pet store stock.

There are some breeders who are only breeding dogs with sound temperaments and those who are cleared of all health defects. However, there are not many breeders of Schnoodles who are doing this. Why not? Because health testing costs money, and the majority (not all) of Schnoodle breeders are only out for money, and they're not willing to invest much into their dogs.

If you have your heart set on getting a Schnoodle, please find a breeder who tests for health problems and has dogs of sound temperaments.
